When Houyi learned the news, he captured Chang 'e and threatened her to hand over the pills. To protect the pill, Chang 'e quickly swallowed the pill and flew to the moon. Houyi looked at the moon and watched Chang 'e from a distance. In order to miss his wife, Houyi got together every year on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, prayed to Chang 'e, and danced a reunion dance.

Since then, the Mid-Autumn Festival has become a reunion festival. On this day, people get together with their families to enjoy the bright moon in the sky, taste mooncakes, and celebrate various activities, such as appreciating the moon, enjoying lanterns, eating mooncakes, and guessing lantern riddles.
